Are You A Software Architect

The Title

WWISA has no right to the title of Architect or Software Architect. If you can persuade your company to give you the title, then you're it. You can even give it to yourself. We would like to think that one day you will want to be a Chartered Software Architect. If so, read on:

Ambiguity

There is no commonly accepted definition of Software Architecture, or the responsibilities of a Software Architect.

The Role

Software Architect is a role. This role may be fulfilled by a single person working full time as a Software Architect. It may be fulfilled by a team of people reporting to a Senior Software Architect. It may also be fulfilled by a person who is also Project Manager, Business Analyst, Developer, Tester and Release Engineer. Being a Software Architect is fulfilling a role which may take up all, or only part, of your time.

Interaction with other roles

There are many other roles that at times will be working hand in hand with the Software Architect. They are the Business Analyst, Project Manager, Junior Architects, Lead Developers, Technical specialists, Test Designers, Testers and Users. Here is a diagram of how you might interact with them.
